Aaron Mead's Ironman Wales 🏴 challenge - Be More Like Olivia
Aaron Mead
My Story
In October 2023, my close friends Harry and Rebecca suffered the unimaginable loss of their beautiful daughter, Olivia, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at just 15 months old.
In her memory, I have signed up to take on The Dragon in Tenby as part of my first ever full Ironman challenge. A full Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile open-water swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, and finishing with a 26.2-mile marathon, all completed back-to-back in a single day.
'With strict cut off times at each stage, an Ironman isn’t just about endurance, you have to keep moving forward all day to earn the finish'
Earlier in this journey, I completed a Half Ironman on Sunday 14th September 2025 in Weymouth. A 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run with the aim of raising funds and awareness for the charity 2wish. Our original target was £2,500 and, thanks to incredible support, we raised an amazing £3,300 for this life changing charity.
Harry and Rebecca say:
“We will be forever grateful for the time we had with Olivia. She was such a bundle of fun, and we’re thankful that she only ever knew love, happiness and joy. Minutes after she died, we chose to live by the phrase ‘Be More Like Olivia’. To us, that means finding positives in life, making the most of the time we’re given, and supporting others whenever we can.”
They also speak powerfully about the impact of 2wish:
“2wish have been a lifeline to us. When Olivia died, we had no support and felt completely alone in our darkest moments. When 2wish expanded into England, it felt like someone was finally reaching out a hand to pull us back up. We are incredibly grateful for the kind, caring and professional support we’ve received. Losing a child is devastating and life is never the same, which is why we have made it our mission to raise awareness of 2wish so other
families can receive the support we didn’t initially have.”
The money raised helps fund vital services including professional counselling, memory boxes, bereavement rooms in hospitals, play therapy for siblings, coffee mornings, and ongoing specialist support for families.
Please consider supporting me in this Ironman challenge, as a busy dad, business owner, and very much a 'wannabe' triathlete to help raise funds and awareness for this truly incredible charity.
